We offer fluoride treatment to prevent tooth decay. Fluoride helps by making teeth more resistant to the build-up of decay causing plaque and sugars. Fluoride works to strengthen weak areas on the teeth. It can also speed re-mineralization as well as disrupt acid erosion in teeth.

According to the ADA, fluoride intake is often recommended for infants and children between the ages of 6 months and 16 years. During this time, primary and permanent teeth are developing.

At Midlothian Children’s Dentistry, we use a fluoride varnish that will feel sticky on the teeth until it eventually absorbs into the enamel. After the examination or check-up, we will apply the fluoride to your child’s teeth to help maintain the enamel in the strongest condition possible.

Your child can eat and drink immediately following fluoride treatments.

In addition to receiving fluoride treatment at our dental office, it can be applied to the teeth through fluoridated toothpastes and mouth rinses. Mouth rinses containing fluoride in lower strengths are available over-the-counter. However, stronger mouth rinses can be prescribed.

Fluoride is also found in city water and certain foods. Fluoride, when combined with a healthy diet and good oral hygiene, can be an effective way to prevent tooth decay.

We strive to provide you with the highest quality care, including the use of fluoride. For more information or to request an appointment, contact our office.
