Midlothian Pediatric Dentist
In some cases, surgery may be required to treat your child. This may involve extraction of a tooth or other surgical treatment for dental trauma. Our team will answer all of your questions and work gently to ensure your child’s comfort and safety.
Why are extractions needed?
A dental extraction may be recommended due to periodontal disease, when a tooth is deeply decayed, or in conjunction with orthodontic treatment. Fortunately, our state-of-the-art technology and modern pain management techniques have made dental extractions possible with little to no discomfort.
What is the process for an extraction?
Before the extraction, your child will be given an anesthetic to reduce discomfort. This will allow your child’s mouth to remain numb throughout the treatment and for a few hours beyond. Next, our skilled dentist will gently extract the tooth from your child’s mouth. We may place a gauze pack on the extraction site to limit bleeding and allow a blood clot to form. This helps to promote the natural healing process. Before you leave, we will provide you with instructions for caring for the extraction site as it heals. Please ask us if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s extraction.
